99% of Jakarta's Energy Consumption is Absorbed by the Transportation Sector

Energy consumption in DKI Jakarta is dominated by the transportation sector. The 2016 Jakarta Provincial Environmental Status Report (SLHD) indicates that this sector accounts for more than 99 percent of the region's energy consumption. This energy use is significantly higher than that of the industrial and household sectors, which account for less than one percent.

This figure is an estimate calculated by the Jakarta Provincial Environmental Management Agency (BPLHD) based on the energy balance sheet for the period 2002-2004. Other data used as references for the calculation include publications from the Jakarta Provincial Statistics Agency (BPS) and results from the National Socioeconomic Survey (Susenas).

As a result, the transportation sector consumes more than 255 billion sbm (oil equivalent barrels) or 99 percent of energy consumption in DKI Jakarta. The remainder is used by the household and industrial sectors, amounting to 62 million and 770 thousand sbm per year, respectively.
