Indonesia's Gasoline Prices Are the Cheapest in Southeast Asia (March 23, 2026)

The United States-Israel war against Iran, which erupted since February 28, 2026, has triggered a rise in global crude oil prices.

The price increase occurred after Iran restricted ship traffic in the Strait of Hormuz, a major route for oil exports from the Middle East.

This subsequently impacted the rise in fuel prices in many countries, including in Southeast Asia.

According to Global Petrol Prices data, the most expensive fuel prices in Southeast Asia are in Singapore, with an average price of RON 95 gasoline reaching Rp43,566 per liter on March 23, 2026.

The price of RON 95 gasoline in Singapore is nearly twice as high as the global average, which is Rp23,823 per liter.

Other Southeast Asian countries with gasoline prices higher than the global average are Laos, Cambodia, and the Philippines.

Meanwhile, the price of RON 95 gasoline in Indonesia is only Rp12,390 per liter, about half of the global average price and the cheapest in the region, as shown in the chart.

"The differences in prices across countries are due to the various taxes and subsidies for gasoline," said Global Petrol Prices on its website, quoted on March 26, 2026.

"All countries have access to the same petroleum prices of international markets but then decide to impose different taxes. As a result, the retail price of gasoline is different," they said.
