Indonesia Spends US$23 Billion on Oil Product Imports in 2025

According to a report from the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS), Indonesia imported 37.75 million tons of oil products in 2025, with a total value of US$23.46 billion.

These oil products follow the 2020 Indonesian Standard Classification of Economic Activities (KBLI), which includes fuel oil for vehicles, such as gasoline, diesel, jet fuel, and various other refined petroleum products.

In 2025, the largest transactions were conducted with Singapore, accounting for 41.4% of the total value of Indonesia's oil imports.

Indonesia also conducted significant transactions with Middle Eastern countries in 2025, particularly the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, and Bahrain.

Together, these five Middle Eastern countries accounted for 13.25% of the total value of Indonesia's oil imports.

Below are the values of Indonesia's oil imports by country of origin in 2025:

1. Singapore: US$9.72 billion
2. Malaysia: US$5.11 billion
3. United Arab Emirates: US$995.7 million
4. Saudi Arabia: US$936.3 million
5. Qatar: US$776.1 million
6. China: US$548.3 million
7. South Korea: US$284.4 million
8. Kuwait: US$243.4 million
9. Bahrain: US$156.2 million
10. India: US$134.4 million
11. Other countries: US$4.55 billion

However, the supply of oil from the Middle East in 2026 could potentially be disrupted. This is because earlier this year, Iran blocked the Strait of Hormuz, a major route for oil shipments from the Middle East.

Iran carried out the blockade after the US and Israel attacked its territory in late February 2026.

"The strait is closed. If anyone tries to pass through it, the Revolutionary Guard and the navy will burn those ships," said Ebrahim Jabari, a senior advisor to the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), as reported by Al Jazeera on March 2, 2026.
