According to a report by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), the realization of oil and gas (migas) investment in Indonesia reached US$18 billion throughout 2025.

This achievement grew by 2.9% compared to the previous year (year-on-year/yoy) and was the highest in the last 10 years.

However, oil and gas lifting actually decreased. Throughout 2025, the total realization of oil and gas lifting was 1.56 million barrels of oil equivalent per day (boepd), down 2.5% (yoy) and becoming the lowest level in the last decade.

Previously, the Special Task Force for Upstream Oil and Gas Business Activities (SKK Migas) stated that Indonesia needs greater investment to increase oil and gas production, in order to achieve the target of 1 million barrels of oil per day and 12 billion cubic feet of gas per day by 2030.

"The 2030 target can be achieved on the condition that we undertake aggressive activities and massive investment," SKK Migas said in a press release (20/9/2023).

"We need to drill more than 1,000 wells per year after 2025. We also need to attract more than US$20 billion in investment per year," it added.
