Indonesia's Biodiesel Distribution and Export Trends up to October 2024

Data from the Indonesian Biofuel Producers Association (Aprobi) shows that Indonesia's accumulated biodiesel production reached 11.41 million kiloliters (kl) from January to October 2024.

Of this volume, 10.85 million kl were distributed during the same period. Meanwhile, 27,400 kl were exported from January to August 2024.

The volumes distributed and exported fluctuated monthly.

In January 2024, the distributed volume was 1.1 million kl and exports were 5,740 kl.

The following month, the distributed and exported volumes decreased to 1.05 million kl and 3,440 kl, respectively.

In March 2024, the distributed volume decreased further to 998,320 kl, while exports increased to 4,590 kl.

Then, in April 2024, the distributed biodiesel volume increased to 1 million kl, and exports decreased to 3,440 kl.

In May 2024, the distributed volume slightly increased to 1.066 million kl, while exports remained stagnant at 3,440 kl.

Furthermore, in June 2024, the distributed volume decreased to 987,450 kl, the lowest volume from January to October 2024. Exports were even lower at 1,720 kl.

The distribution volume increased from July to October 2024, as shown in the graph. The same is true for exports. However, Aprobi has not yet released export data for September and October 2024.

According to *Katadata*, the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) has set the Market Index Price (HIP) for biodiesel (BBN) in December 2024 at Rp14,389.

The price of biodiesel increased by Rp1,005 per liter compared to November 2024, which was Rp13,384 per liter, plus transportation costs.

"This biodiesel price is effective from December 1, 2024," said the Acting Head of the Bureau of Communication, Public Information Services, and Cooperation of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Chrisnawan Anditya, in a written statement on Wednesday (11/12/2024).

Biodiesel is an alternative fuel made from vegetable or animal oils that can replace diesel fuel in diesel engines. Indonesia currently uses B35 (35% biodiesel).
