Despite Falling Short of Targets, Indonesia's EBT Mix Achievement Shows an Upward Trend Since 2016

The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) notes that the target for Indonesia's new and renewable energy (NRE) mix in the national general energy plan (RUEN) is 17.9% in 2023.

However, the actual achievement reached only 13.3% in the same year.

Looking at the annual trend, Indonesia's NRE mix realization has been below target since 2016. However, the figure has been increasing.

In 2016, for example, the target mix was 10.4%, but the realization was 6.7%. This realization persisted until the following year, although the target increased slightly to 10.9%.

Then in 2018, the target was 11.6%. The realization increased significantly to 8.6%.

Even during the Covid-19 pandemic, achievements and realization continued to rise.

In 2020, the target was 13.4% and the realization was 10.9%. Meanwhile, in 2021, the target was 14.5% and the realization reached 11.8%.

The ESDM Ministry also presented the target percentage of RUEN for each energy commodity, including NRE at 13.29%; natural gas at 17.11%; oil at 29.91%; and coal at 39.69% in 2023.

However, in 2025, the targets set include NRE at 23%; gas at 22%; oil at 25%; and coal at 30%.
