The Plumpang Oil Fuel Terminal (TBBM) or Plumpang Depot, owned by PT Pertamina (Persero) in North Jakarta, caught fire on Friday, March 3, 2023. The fire spread to the Tanah Merah residential area, approximately 500 meters from the incident site. The event resulted in 19 fatalities and 49 people being hospitalized.
The Plumpang Depot fire last week was the second such incident, following a similar event on January 18, 2009.
Besides the Plumpang Depot, several other crude oil processing and fuel storage locations have experienced similar incidents. According to information compiled by *Databoks.co.id*, at least 20 fire incidents occurred at Pertamina's TBBMs from 1995 to March 2023.
