Kupang City's Open Unemployment Rate Highest in NTT in August 2021

The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reports that the Open Unemployment Rate (OUR) in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) Province was 3.77% in August 2021. This indicates that out of every 100 people in the workforce, approximately four are unemployed. In August 2021, the OUR decreased by 0.51 percentage points compared to August 2020.

Looking at the districts/cities, Kupang City had the highest OUR in NTT, reaching 9.76%. It was followed by Belu Regency with an OUR of 5.35%.

Meanwhile, Nagekeo Regency had the lowest OUR at only 0.97%. Above it was Sabu Raijua Regency with an OUR of 1.25%.

The OUR for males in NTT was 3.71%, lower than the OUR for females, which was 3.84%. Compared to August 2020, the OUR for males and females in August 2021 decreased by 0.88 and 0.05 percentage points, respectively.

Furthermore, the OUR in urban areas of NTT was recorded at 7.88%. This figure is more than three times higher than the OUR in rural areas of NTT, which was 2.51%.

By education level, Vocational School graduates had the highest OUR in NTT at 7.47%. The lowest OUR was among graduates of elementary school (SD) and below, at 1.89%.
