BPJS Employment (TK) data shows that 1.5 million workers from the textile, garment, and footwear industries were registered as active participants from January to May 2024. These workers come from 6,962 companies across Indonesia.

"Of the 1.5 million participants, 1.4 million are in Java," said BPJS Employment President Director Anggoro Eko Cahyo in a hearing with Commission IX of the DPR (House of Representatives) on Tuesday (2/7/2024).

West Java has the highest number of BPJS Employment participants from this sector, with 531,831 participants. This is equivalent to 40.55% of the total active participants in the national clothing, garment, and footwear industry.

Central Java has 510,490 participants, Banten 166,046 participants, East Java 81,868 participants, and DKI Jakarta 34,058 participants. The remainder are predominantly workers from outside Java, as shown in the attached graph.

BPJS Health also reported receiving 12,586 Old-Age Security Guarantee (JHT) claims due to layoffs in this sector from January to May 2024. This represents 20% of the total claims received from all sectors.
