West Java Has the Highest Number of Entrepreneurs Nationwide

West Java has the largest number of self-employed individuals in Indonesia. Based on data from the Directorate General of Population and Civil Registration (Dukcapil) of the Ministry of Home Affairs, the number of residents in West Java whose primary occupation is self-employment reaches 13.31 million people, or 27.96% of the total population of 47.59 million.

The next province with the highest number of self-employed residents is Central Java, with 12.08 million people (32.46%) of the total population. This is followed by East Java with 11.96 million self-employed residents (29.19%), then DKI Jakarta with 4.06 million (36.06%), and Banten with 3.51 million (29.87%).

Other provinces with a significant number of self-employed residents include North Sumatra with 3.01 million (19.87%), Lampung with 1.45 million (16.42%), Bali with 1.35 million (31.55%), and South Sulawesi and South Sumatra with 1.33 million (14.45%) and 1.23 million (14.54%) respectively.

Nationally, the number of self-employed individuals reaches 66.24 million, or 24.33% of Indonesia's total population of 272.23 million. This profession is the largest compared to other professions. For example, the population working as teachers is only 0.23%, as state officials 2.13%, and those working in the agricultural and livestock sectors 11.01%.

The population with student status totaled 46.93 million (17.24%) in the middle of this year. Meanwhile, the unemployed population amounted to 68.88 million (25.3%) of Indonesia's total population.
