The Proportion of Women in Managerial Positions Has Decreased Over the Past Two Years

The workplace is increasingly emphasizing gender equality between male and female employees. Several companies are also encouraging women to take on managerial positions.

According to data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), the proportion of Indonesian women working in managerial positions reached 32.26% in 2022. However, this figure has decreased over the past two years.

The proportion of Indonesian women in managerial positions last year fell by 0.24 percentage points from 32.5% in 2021. The figure is also lower than the 33.08% recorded in 2020.

In fact, the proportion of Indonesian women in managerial positions had been steadily increasing from 2015 to 2020.

By province, the highest proportion of women in managerial positions nationally in 2022 was in North Sulawesi at 46.09%. This was followed by Jambi, with 45.68% of women holding managerial positions.

Conversely, Bengkulu had the lowest proportion of women in managerial positions nationally in 2022, at only 23.2%. This was followed by Bangka Belitung Islands, with 24.09% of women in managerial roles.

Based on education level, the highest proportion of women in managerial positions were graduates of Diploma I/II/III programs, at 42.54%. This was followed by those with primary school education or less (40.82%), junior high school (33.99%), vocational high school (31.01%), university (30.38%), and general high school (27.65%).

Finally, by region, the proportion of female workers in managerial positions in urban areas was 32.71% in 2022. In rural areas, the proportion of female workers holding managerial positions was 31.02%.
