The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) calculated the composition of the working population by employment status throughout 2022. The most prevalent status was laborer or employee, with a proportion of 37.66%.
This figure saw a slight increase of 0.2% from the previous survey period, which was 37.46% in 2021.
The second most common status was self-employed or entrepreneur, at 22.04% in 2022. This figure increased by 1.26% from the previous 20.78% in 2021.
Next, employing unpaid or temporary workers accounted for 14.62%. This achievement decreased from the previous 14.7%.
BPS explained that employing unpaid or temporary workers refers to self-employment involving unpaid or temporary workers.
There were also unpaid family workers, accounting for 13.08%. This figure decreased by 0.6% from 2021, which was 13.68%. Workers in this category may include housewives.
Then, there were self-employed workers in the non-agricultural sector at 5.43% in 2022, down from 5.86% in 2021.
There were also self-employed workers in agriculture with a percentage of 4.13% in 2022, down from 4.43% in 2021.
Finally, self-employment with paid permanent workers accounted for 3.04%. This figure also saw a slight decrease from the previous 3.09%.
BPS explained that self-employment with paid permanent workers refers to self-employment employing at least one paid permanent worker.
In general, many employment statuses experienced a decline during the 2021-2022 period. This report is included in the *Decent Work Indicators in Indonesia 2022*.
"The largest decrease was in the employment status of unpaid family workers, which decreased by 0.60 percentage points," wrote BPS.
