The 2018 Asian Games Created 57,000 Jobs in Jakarta

The 2018 Asian Games were a highly anticipated sporting event for the Asian community, including Indonesia. The 18th Asian Games were held in Indonesia, specifically in Jakarta and Palembang. This sporting event took place from August 18th to September 2nd and was participated in by 45 countries.

According to a presentation by the Ministry of National Development Planning/Bappenas titled "The Economic Impact of the 2018 Asian Games on DKI Jakarta and South Sumatra," the Asian Games created job opportunities in the capital city. From 2015 to 2018, it is estimated that approximately 57,300 jobs were created. In 2017, 26,600 people were employed during the Asian Games preparation phase in Jakarta, the highest number during the 2015-2018 period. The average increase in job opportunities reached 0.51% in 2018-2019.

The increased job opportunities during the Asian Games preparation period also led to a 0.46% increase in real wages. The Asian Games are also predicted to boost Jakarta's GRDP by 0.34% and generate an additional real economic benefit of Rp 6 trillion this year.
