Government Cuts Target for Civil Servant Relocation to IKN Due to Unready Housing

The Minister of Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform (Menpan RB), Abdullah Azwar Anas, stated that the number of Civil Servants (ASN) to be relocated to the Nusantara Capital City (IKN) this year has been reduced to 6,000.

Initially, the target was 11,916 ASN. According to Anas, this reduction is due to insufficient housing availability.

"The initial plan was to relocate 11,916 ASN, but since only 6,000 housing units are ready, only 6,000 ASN will be relocated for now," said Anas, as reported by Antara on Tuesday (20/2/2024).

Not only has the number been reduced, but the government has also postponed the relocation of ASN to IKN.

"The initial plan was to relocate in July, but after instruction from the Minister of State Secretariat, because part of IKN will still be used for the August 17th ceremony, the relocation will be after August," said Anas.

Anas stated that the relocation of ASN will be divided into three phases. The first priority is for 179 echelon I officials from 38 ministries/institutions, including the Ministry of Trade.

The second priority is for 91 echelon I officials from 29 ministries/institutions, and the third priority is for 378 echelon I officials from 59 ministries/institutions.

"We have three phases (of ASN relocation) – short, medium, and long term," said Anas.

Anas also revealed that the concept of ministry and institution offices in IKN will differ from those in Jakarta.

"The offices will not be like our current offices, where each person has their own desk. Going forward, the concept will be sharing, as the electronic-based government system is already in place. The work system will be highly effective, with shared offices, shared systems, and so on," he said.
