This Province Has the Largest Number of Civil Servants in Indonesia

One of the most sought-after jobs in Indonesia is a Civil Servant (PNS). This profession is considered free from the possibility of termination of employment (PHK) and also receives a pension guarantee and performance allowance.

Quoting data from the National Personnel Agency (BKN), as of December 31, 2021, the number of active Indonesian Civil Servants (PNS) was 3,995,634, a decrease of 4.1% compared to 2020.

Based on region, East Java had the highest number of civil servants in 2021, reaching 403,754. The breakdown shows 322,124 civil servants served in Regional Institutions, and 81,630 in Central Institutions.

Meanwhile, Central Java ranked second with 367,199 civil servants. West Java and DKI Jakarta followed, with 361,805 and 263,930 civil servants respectively.

This data shows that the number of civil servants in Indonesia is still concentrated on Java Island. North Kalimantan had the lowest number of civil servants, with only 22,238.
