Indonesia Placed 36,200 Migrant Workers in the First Half of 2021

Data from the Indonesian Migrant Worker Protection Agency (BP2MI) shows that 36,218 Indonesian migrant workers were placed in the first half of 2021. The highest number of placements in this six-month period occurred in March 2021, with 7,072 individuals.

The lowest number of placements was in February 2021, with 4,234 individuals. This low number coincided with the implementation of micro-scale Community Activity Restrictions (PPKM) in Java and Bali during the second month of the year.

By province, East Java was the highest contributor of national migrant workers from January to June 2021, with 14,329 individuals. It was followed by Central Java and West Java, with 8,683 and 6,281 migrant workers respectively.

Hong Kong was the main destination country for Indonesian migrant workers in the first half of 2021. 26,695 Indonesian migrant workers went to Hong Kong in the first six months of the year.

3,305 Indonesian migrant workers went to Taiwan. Following Taiwan, Italy received 1,722 and 1,687 Indonesian migrant workers respectively. (Note: There appears to be a repetition and slight discrepancy in the original text regarding Taiwan and Italy's numbers).

In terms of gender, the number of female migrant workers was significantly higher than male migrant workers throughout the first half of 2021. The number of female migrant workers was recorded at 26,539, while the number of male migrant workers was only 3,795.
