Under-Appreciated and Overworked: Reasons Why Indonesian Citizens Are Unhappy with Their Jobs

A Kurious survey by the Katadata Insight Center (KIC) reveals that a significant number of respondents reported unhappiness with their jobs.

This proportion reached 11.8% of the total respondents, with 2% reporting extreme unhappiness and 9.8% reporting unhappiness.

Those unhappy with their jobs cited several contributing factors.

The primary reason was a lack of recognition and appreciation, cited by 42.3% of respondents. Secondly, a lack of opportunities for self-development was cited by 37.3% of respondents.

Thirdly, an excessive workload was reported by 36.6% of respondents. Fourth, an imbalance between work and personal life was cited by 34.5% of respondents.

A poor work environment also contributed to job dissatisfaction, selected by 30.3% of respondents.

The following proportions illustrate the factors contributing to job dissatisfaction among respondents:

* Lack of recognition and appreciation: 42.3% of total respondents
* Lack of development opportunities: 37.3%
* Excessive workload: 36.6%
* Imbalance between work and personal life: 34.5%
* Poor work environment: 30.3%
* Unclear roles and objectives: 30.3%
* Mismatch with interests: 23.9%
* Inability to utilize skills and talents: 18.3%
* Other: 9.9%

The total survey involved 744 respondents. However, the analysis of respondents unhappy with their jobs involved 142 respondents.

Data was collected from May 30 to June 5, 2023, using computer-assisted web interviewing (CAWI) with a margin of error of approximately 3.59% and a 95% confidence level.
