According to a report from the Ministry of Agriculture (Kementan), the number of workers in four subsectors of Indonesia's agriculture reached 38.20 million in August 2025. This figure increased by 1.02% (year-on-year/yoy).

Meanwhile, the number of people working in the livestock farming subsector in August 2025 reached 5.33 million, a decrease of 1.2% (yoy) and about 13.95% of the total workforce in the agriculture sector.

Furthermore, the number of workers in the horticulture subsector reached 4.10 million, an increase of 10.06% (yoy) and equivalent to 10.74% of the total workforce in the agriculture sector.

Despite absorbing a large number of workers, Kementan said, these four subsectors currently only contribute 11.2% to the country's gross domestic product (GDP) in the third quarter of 2025.

"This situation shows that the productivity of agricultural workers is still low. This low productivity is due to the low level of education and the ability to adopt technology," explained Kementan.
