According to reports from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), the number of people working in Indonesia in August 2025 reached 146.54 million people.
This number increased by approximately 1.9 million people compared to August last year.
Out of Indonesia's 17 main business sectors, an increase in the number of employed people occurred in 13 sectors.
The largest increase occurred in the agricultural sector, where the workforce grew by 0.49 million people between August 2024 and August 2025.
However, there were also 4 business sectors where the workforce decreased, namely mining, real estate, other services, and finance.
Below is a list of business sectors with an increase in the number of workers during the August 2024—August 2025 period:
- Agriculture, Forestry, and Fishing: increased by 0.49 million people
- Accommodation and Food and Beverage Service Activities: increased by 0.42 million people
- Manufacturing Industry: increased by 0.3 million people
- Education: increased by 0.25 million people
- Professional, Scientific, and Technical Activities: increased by 0.13 million people
- Wholesale and Retail Trade; Repair of Motor Vehicles and Motorcycles: increased by 0.12 million people
- Human Health and Social Work Activities: increased by 0.1 million people
- Transportation and Storage: increased by 0.07 million people
- Construction: increased by 0.07 million people
- Public Administration and Defence; Compulsory Social Security: increased by 0.04 million people
- Information and Communication: increased by 0.04 million people
- Water Supply; Sewerage, Waste Management and Remediation Activities: increased by 0.04 million people
- Electricity and Gas Supply: increased by 0.009 million people
And here is a list of business sectors with a decrease in the number of workers during the August 2024—August 2025 period:
- Mining and Quarrying: decreased by 0.005 million people
- Real Estate Activities: decreased by 0.05 million people
- Other Service Activities: decreased by 0.06 million people
- Financial and Insurance Activities: decreased by 0.06 million people
