As people age, global workers spend increasingly more time working alone. This is a finding from a 2024 survey conducted by the Gensler Research Institute.

According to the institute, 37.4% of workers aged 18-29 spend their time working alone in a week.

This percentage increases to 38.3% among the 30-39 age group. The increase continues in the 40-49 age group and peaks in the 50-59 age group.

Furthermore, 40.4% of workers aged 40-49 feel they work alone, while this figure rises to 45.1% for workers aged 50-59.

The time spent working alone during a work week only decreases after workers reach the age of 60. In this age group, the proportion is 38%.

On average, respondents who spent time working alone (39.3%) had the highest percentage compared to time spent working directly with others (27.9%) and virtually (13.4%).

The *Global Workplace Survey 2025* was conducted by the Gensler Research Institute using an anonymous panel of 16,809 full-time office workers from 15 countries in Asia, Europe, Latin America, America, the United Kingdom, and the Middle East. The survey took place from August 26 to December 3, 2024.
