The Stanford Institute for Economic Policy Research (SIEPR) mapped the work-from-home (WFH) rates of a number of highly educated workers worldwide at the beginning of 2025.

Asian workers were recorded as having the least amount of WFH, averaging between 0.5 and 1 day per week.

SIEPR then analyzed the data by gender: female workers averaged 1.11 days of WFH, while male workers averaged 1.06 days.

Workers in English-speaking countries had the highest average WFH, at approximately 1.5-2 days per week. Women averaged 1.62 days, while men averaged 1.59 days.

Latin American and African countries followed with lower rates, averaging around 1 day per week.

In Africa, women averaged 1.42 days and men 1.38 days. In Latin America, women averaged 1.35 days and men 1.15 days.

European countries recorded an average of 1 to 1.5 days per week. Women averaged 1.16 days and men 1.25 days.

"We see some limited differences across regions, but the overall pattern is that men and women have similar WFH rates within countries," Stanford wrote in a report on its website, as quoted on Monday (May 19, 2025).

The SIEPR survey targeted university graduates in 40 countries across the Americas, Europe, Asia, and Africa from November 2024 to February 2025. This section of the research on WFH rates by gender involved 16,422 respondents.
