According to a February 2025 report by Indonesia's Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS), 145.77 million Indonesians were employed, a 2.5% year-on-year (yoy) increase compared to February of the previous year.
However, this growth was not evenly distributed across all sectors.
Of the 17 national business sectors, employment increased in 13 at the beginning of the year, decreased in 3, and remained stagnant in 1.
The following business sectors showed an increase in the number of employed people in February 2025:
1. Agriculture, forestry, and fisheries: increased by 2.2% (yoy) to 41.61 million people
2. Wholesale and retail trade, repair and maintenance of motor vehicles and motorcycles: increased by 3.6% (yoy) to 28.07 million people
3. Manufacturing industry: increased by 3.8% (yoy) to 19.6 million people
4. Accommodation, food, and beverage services: increased by 3.3% (yoy) to 11.48 million people
5. Construction: increased by 0.7% (yoy) to 8.7 million people
6. Education: increased by 1.2% (yoy) to 7.35 million people
7. Transportation and warehousing: increased by 4.6% (yoy) to 6.17 million people
8. Professional and business services: increased by 14.5% (yoy) to 2.53 million people
9. Health and social activities: increased by 0.4% (yoy) to 2.51 million people
10. Financial and insurance services: increased by 1.2% (yoy) to 1.66 million people
11. Information and communication: increased by 1.6% (yoy) to 1.25 million people
12. Water management, waste, garbage, recycling, and remediation activities: increased by 8.6% (yoy) to 0.63 million people
13. Real estate: increased by 4.2% (yoy) to 0.5 million people
The following business sectors showed a decrease in the number of employed people in February 2025:
1. Other services: decreased by 0.3% (yoy) to 6.39 million people
2. Government administration, defense, and compulsory social security: decreased by 2.7% (yoy) to 5.32 million people
3. Mining and quarrying: decreased by 3.5% (yoy) to 1.64 million people
The only sector with stagnant employment was electricity, gas, steam/hot water, and air conditioning supply.
In February 2025, the number of employed people in this sector was approximately 0.36 million, the same as in February of the previous year, as shown in the graph.
