According to a report by the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), the number of unemployed people in Indonesia reached 7.47 million in August 2024.
This unemployment figure includes the workforce aged 15 years and older who meet the following criteria:
* Not working and actively seeking employment;
* Not working and preparing to start a business;
* Having accepted a job/being ready to start a business but not yet started working/operating; or
* Not working and feeling it is impossible to find a job (discouraged workers).
Most of the unemployed in August 2024 were young people, under 30 years old, a mix of Generation Z and Millennials.
The highest number of unemployed individuals came from the 20-24 age group, followed by the 15-19 and 25-29 age groups, with the details shown in the graph.
Combined, in August 2024, the number of young unemployed people under 30 years old (15-29 years) reached 5.19 million, almost 70% of the total national unemployment.
