Data from the Indonesian Migrant Worker Protection Agency (BP2MI) shows that 1,500 complaints from Indonesian migrant workers (IMWs) were received throughout 2024.

The number of complaints has fluctuated over the past year. The highest number of complaints was recorded in May 2024 with a total of 226 cases, while the lowest number was received in February 2024 with 81 cases.

Most recently, 142 cases were reported by IMWs in December 2024. Of these, 111 complaints were reported by non-procedural IMWs and 31 cases by procedural IMWs.

Based on the type of case, the most frequently reported complaint to BP2MI in December was IMWs wishing to be repatriated, totaling 50 cases.

This was followed by 16 cases of IMWs failing to depart, 13 cases of unpaid wages, 10 cases of IMWs falling ill, and 9 cases related to worker social security.

BP2MI also recorded that complaints from IMWs last month originated mostly from Malaysia, with a total of 31 cases. This was followed by Congo with 23 cases, Saudi Arabia with 18 cases, and Taiwan with 18 cases.

During the same period, a joint team from BP2MI and the Ministry of Manpower prevented the departure of 21 non-procedural IMWs to the Middle East.

"The Ministry of Manpower deeply regrets and is concerned that the practice of placing migrant workers, especially to the Middle East, non-procedurally continues," said the Acting Director General of Employment Supervision and Occupational Safety and Health, Fahrurozi, in a statement, as reported by *Antara* on Saturday, December 14, 2024.

He stated that the government will take action against those involved in the non-procedural placement of workers, as it has the potential to constitute human trafficking.
