A report from Indonesia's Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) shows that in 2023, 8% of the population aged 15 and over had stopped working within the last year.

Of this group, the majority, or 27.2%, stopped working due to contract or employment term expiration.

"1 in 4 people aged 15 and over stopped working due to contract or employment term expiration," wrote the BPS in its report titled *Statistics on Population and Labor Mobility 2024*.

Furthermore, 15.5% stopped working due to unsatisfactory income, 9.9% due to household responsibilities, and 8% due to dissatisfaction with the work environment.

Others stopped working due to layoffs (4.1%), business bankruptcy (3.8%), and other reasons (31.5%).

Looking at the sector, 32.2% of those who had ever worked came from the agricultural sector. This was followed by the electricity and gas sector (15.1%), trade (13.8%), and construction (11.4%).

"The good news is that 3 out of 5 people who had stopped working had returned to work by August 2023," wrote the BPS.
