Most Foreign Workers in Indonesia Worked in the Service Sector in 2020

The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reported that the number of foreign workers (TKA) in Indonesia was 93,761 in 2020. This figure decreased by 14.4% from the previous year, which was 109,546. By sector, most foreign workers are employed in the service sector.

The number of foreign workers in Indonesia's service sector reached 53,323. This figure decreased by 18.5% from 2019, which was 65,416.

The next largest sector is industry. Foreign workers employed in the industrial sector reached 38,087, down 8% from 2019, which was 41,418.

Finally, foreign workers in the agricultural and maritime sectors totaled 2,351. This figure decreased by 13.3% from the previous year, which was 2,712.

By country of origin, China is the largest source of foreign workers in Indonesia. In 2020, there were 38,814 Chinese workers in Indonesia.
