The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) in its 2019 Economic Report notes a widening gap between male and female wages. Male workers earn more than female workers. During the period 2015-February 2019, the difference reached Rp 492,200.
Specifically, the difference was Rp 269,000 in 2015, Rp 458,400 in 2016, Rp 554,000 in 2017, and Rp 560,600 in 2018. By February 2019, the gap had widened further to Rp 618,800.
The BPS also mentions that this wage gap is a long-standing issue due to the perception that women contribute less to their work. Furthermore, women tend to be placed in lower-value positions.
This issue poses a challenge for women in the workforce to achieve equal employment, income, and leadership positions.
