Hotspots are coordinate points showing higher surface temperature than surrounding areas; they do not directly equal individual fire incidents.
However, clustered and high-volume hotspot readings reliably indicate active forest and land fire events. Satellite-detected hotspot data remains the most effective method for large-scale wildfire monitoring.
