One-third of Jakarta's unemployed in August 2021 were vocational high school (SMK) graduates.

Based on data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), there were 439,900 unemployed people in the capital city in August 2021. One-third of the unemployment in DKI Jakarta was comprised of Vocational High School (SMK) graduates.

This means that the Open Unemployment Rate (TPT) in the province led by Governor Anies Baswedan was 8.5% of the total workforce, which reached 5.18 million people.

According to education level, 147,410 people (33.51%) of the unemployed in Jakarta were Vocational High School (SMK) graduates last August. The unemployment rate from this SMK level was the highest compared to other education levels.

The increasing number of SMK graduates who are not absorbed into the workforce has resulted in a relatively high unemployment rate among this group. Therefore, SMK students need to receive training that meets the needs of the business world and is able to create new job opportunities in their environment.

The next largest group of unemployed were from Senior High School (SMA) education level, reaching 29.38%, followed by university graduates at 13.58%, and Junior High School (SMP) graduates at 11.98%.

There were also 8.84% of unemployed Jakartans with primary school (SD) education or lower, and 2.71% from Diploma I/II/III education levels.

Of the total 4.73 million Jakartan workforce, 2.92 million (61.74%) worked in the formal sector. There were also 1.81 million workers (38.26%) employed in the informal sector.
