Based on the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) report titled *Decent Work Indicators in Indonesia 2022*, there were 720,748 workers with disabilities in Indonesia in 2022. This number surged by 160.18% year-on-year (yoy) from 277,018 in the previous year.
In 2022, most workers with disabilities in Indonesia were employed in the agriculture sector, totaling 305,217 individuals. This figure increased by 155.59% yoy.
“The largest distribution of working individuals with disabilities is in the agricultural sector, reaching 42.35% (of the total national workforce with disabilities),” stated the BPS, as cited from its report.
A significant number of workers with disabilities in Indonesia also work in the service sector. In 2022, this amounted to 287,941 individuals, or 39.95% of the total workforce with disabilities in Indonesia. The number of workers with disabilities in this sector in 2022 increased by 160.11% year-on-year (yoy).
Meanwhile, the smallest number of workers with disabilities in Indonesia were employed in the industrial sector, with only 127,590 individuals in 2022, representing just 17.7% of the total national workforce with disabilities. The number of workers with disabilities in the industrial sector increased by approximately 172.02% year-on-year (yoy) last year.
“The same distribution was also observed in 2021, with the largest number of workers with disabilities in the agricultural sector at 43.11%, followed by services at 39.96%, and the smallest distribution in industry at 16.93%,” said the BPS.
The BPS report also shows that the majority of workers with disabilities in Indonesia are self-employed.
In 2022, the proportion of workers with disabilities who were self-employed reached 0.81% of the total national workforce.
Furthermore, the proportion of workers with disabilities employing unpaid family workers was 0.78%, and unpaid family workers constituted 0.67%.
