West Java's Poverty Rate Decreased by 4.7% in September 2021

The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reported that the number of poor people in West Java reached 4 million in September 2021. This figure is down 4.7% compared to March 2021, which was 4.2 million. Meanwhile, compared to September 2020, the number decreased by 4.5%.

The poverty rate in West Java also decreased. In September 2021, it was 7.97%, down 0.43 percentage points from March 2021 and down 0.46 percentage points from September 2020.

Since September 2015, poverty in West Java has shown a downward trend in both number and percentage. However, the Covid-19 pandemic, which began in March 2020, caused an increase in poverty in West Java.

In March 2020, the number of poor people in West Java reached 3.92 million (7.88%). This then increased to 4.19 million (8.43%) in September 2020.

After that, in March 2021, the number of poor people in West Java increased to 4.2 million, but this increase was not reflected in the percentage. The poverty rate decreased to 8.4% in March 2021.

The poverty rate in rural areas of West Java is higher than in urban areas. In September 2021, the poverty rate in rural areas was 9.76%, while in urban areas it was 7.48%.
