Indonesia's Work Quality Declines Due to the Pandemic

The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) states that the pandemic impacted the quality of Indonesian jobs. This is evident in the Job Quality Index (IKP), which stood at 43.78 in August 2020, a 20.7% decrease from 55.23 in August 2019.

Compared to February, there was a 20.7% decrease in Indonesia's IKP from 52.79 in February 2020 to 44.54 in February 2021. However, between August 2020 and February 2021, there was a 1.7% improvement in the IKP.

This improvement is due to positive changes from the economic recovery program, although the figures are not yet as high as before the pandemic.

Furthermore, there is an inequality in IKP achievement. The highest index comes from the capital city, reaching 81.92. Meanwhile, the lowest was achieved by West Sulawesi, with an index of only 2.36.

For information, the dimension of job quality describes decent work. One approach considers the use of working time with reasonable working hours. In addition, job quality can be seen from the employment status, whether formal or informal. Informal workers tend to have relatively low wages, low skills, and lack social security.
