Domestic Helpers (PLRT) continued to dominate the placement of Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI) throughout 2018. No less than 93,000, or almost one-third, of PMIs working abroad were employed as PLRTs or domestic assistants.
The second most common profession for migrant workers was caregiver (providing care for the sick/elderly), reaching 51,000 or approximately 18% of the total. Operators ranked third, with 36,000 workers.
PMI placement in 2018 reached 283,640 workers, comprising 133,640 in the formal sector and 150,000 in the informal sector. Meanwhile, based on gender, 199,000 (70%) were female workers and only 85,000 (30%) were male workers.
