Impact of PPKM: 36.49% of the Working Population Experienced Salary Reductions

Some working residents felt the impact of the Community Activity Restriction Policy (PPKM). Many companies implemented policies to reduce or cut employee salaries to survive the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to a survey by the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), 36.49% of working residents experienced salary reductions due to the government's PPKM policy. However, the majority, or 56.35% of working residents, experienced no change in their salaries.

On the other hand, 3.4% of working residents even experienced salary increases during the PPKM period. The remaining 3.76% did not answer/did not know.

The three business sectors that experienced the most salary reductions were accommodation and food services (58.6%), transportation and warehousing (56.12%), and wholesale and retail trade (50.36%). Meanwhile, the business sectors that experienced the least salary reductions were government administration (7.94%), health activities (14.15%), and education (14.63%).

By province, Bali had the highest percentage of working residents experiencing salary reductions, at 54.82%. Meanwhile, North Maluku had the lowest percentage, at 17.74%.
