The international research ranking agency, Nature Index, has released its 2023 list of the best universities in Indonesia. This index assesses contributions from 145 high-quality journals in the natural sciences and health, selected by a panel of independent researchers. In addition to considering the quantity of university research, the Nature Index also measures the contribution of individual researchers to a study. The more researchers involved in a study, the smaller the individual contribution.
As a result, Universitas Indonesia (UI) is ranked as the best university in Indonesia according to the Nature Index, with a research contribution share of 3.52. This achievement is based on 16 UI articles published in international journals between September 1, 2022, and August 31, 2023.
UI's Director of Research and Development, Munawar Khalil, stated that they will continue to encourage researchers to produce numerous research articles that can be published in top world journals. "So that UI's contribution to the international arena will be even greater," said Khalil in a statement on UI's official website on Tuesday, January 30, 2024.
Universitas Parahyangan is ranked second, with a research contribution share of 1.50 from two articles produced in the last year. Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) follows in third place. Although this university has 9 published international journals, its contribution share is only 0.84.
