Indonesia has the world's largest Muslim population. Unsurprisingly, the number of places of worship for Muslims, or mosques, is quite large throughout the country.
Citing data from the Ministry of Religious Affairs (Kemenag), Indonesia had a total of 290,161 mosques as of May 2022, spread across 34 provinces.
West Java has the highest number of mosques, reaching 59,243.
This is followed by Central Java and East Java, with 50,691 and 49,869 mosques respectively.
South Sulawesi has 14,410 mosques. Next is Lampung with 12,052 mosques, North Sumatra with 10,626 mosques, and South Sumatra with 9,381 mosques.
Bali has the fewest mosques. The number of mosques in this province, where the majority of the population is Hindu, is only 250.
This data compiled from Kemenag is real-time and was last updated on May 13, 2022.
