Based on the monitoring results of the Indonesian Education Monitoring Network (JPPI), during 2025 there were at least 641 cases of violence in Indonesian educational institutions.

Peers: 31.11% of cases
Adult-child: 16.12% of cases
Senior-junior: 6.51% of cases

According to JPPI, the distribution of victims further underscores the failure of the child protection system. This is because 90% of victims are students, while perpetrators are predominantly teachers and educational staff (57%).

“When educators (who are supposed to protect) become perpetrators, schools lose their basic function as safe spaces and transform into spaces of risk for children,” it explained.

Furthermore, during 2025, JPPI recorded that the highest type of violence in educational institutions was sexual violence (57.65%), followed by bullying (22.31%), physical violence (18.89%), and other types of violence (1.15%).

“This confirms the existence of a silent pandemic in the world of education: the most damaging violence occurs hidden, is difficult to report, and is often covered up by institutions in the name of reputation and good standing,” JPPI concluded.
