Statistics Indonesia (BPS) reports that the school readiness rate (AKS) tended to increase during 2021-2025.

BPS explained that AKS is the percentage of students currently in grade 1 of elementary school/equivalent who, in the previous academic year, attended Early Childhood Education (PAUD), relative to all children currently in grade 1 of elementary school/equivalent.

In 2021, the AKS was 74.69%. A year later, it experienced a slight decrease to 74.43%.

Subsequently, the figure consistently increased, reaching 80.29% in 2025.

By gender, the AKS for girls was higher, at 80.67%, while for boys it was 79.92%.

"Although there was a difference in AKS achievement between boys and girls, the percentage difference was only about 0.75 percentage points," BPS wrote.

Based on regional characteristics, urban areas showed a higher proportion at 82.48%, while rural areas were at 77.36%.

"The AKS in urban areas was higher compared to rural areas, with a percentage difference of approximately 5.12 percentage points," BPS stated.
