In 2025, the Indonesian Government has a program to revitalize quality school and madrasah facilities and infrastructure.
This is stipulated in Presidential Regulation Number 79 of 2025 concerning the Update of the Government Work Plan for 2025, which was enacted and promulgated on June 30, 2025.
In implementing this revitalization program, the government faces challenges in providing quality educational facilities and infrastructure, as follows:
- 29,830 villages/urban communities do not have kindergartens (TK/RA/BA);
- 302 sub-districts do not have junior high schools (SMP/MTs);
- 727 sub-districts do not have senior high schools (SMA/SMK/MA);
- 3,153 schools do not have electricity;
- 22,373 schools do not have internet access;
- 2,458 schools lack both electricity and internet access; and
- 23.97% of classrooms are in moderately to severely damaged condition.
In this program, the main focus of revitalizing quality school and madrasah facilities and infrastructure is divided into two: repairing damaged classrooms and non-classroom spaces, and fulfilling facilities and infrastructure according to national education standards.
The government also established two interventions to realize this revitalization, including the revitalization of educational infrastructure, the construction of new educational units, and the revitalization of existing educational unit facilities.
For 2025, the government has set two targets for this program:
1. Percentage of formal and non-formal educational units that meet national education standards for facilities and infrastructure, including the provision of facilities to support inclusive educational units: 31.14%.
2. Percentage of madrasahs, general educational units with religious characteristics, and religious educational units that meet national education standards for facilities and infrastructure, including the provision of facilities to support inclusive educational units: 46.08%.
