Nearly 50% of Educational Institutions Lack Transparency in Procurement of Goods and Services

According to the *2024 Education Integrity Assessment Survey Report* from the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), 49.99% of national educational institutions lack transparency in the procurement of facilities and infrastructure.

Furthermore, 47.36% had cases of financial statement audits that were inconsistent with actual implementation. This finding was exclusive to higher education institutions.

Moreover, in 2024, 43.74% of educational institutions selected vendors or providers of goods and services based on personal relationships.

Then, 27.59% received commissions from vendors, and 20.03% purchased facilities and infrastructure that did not meet the needs of teaching and learning.

Regarding these findings, the KPK recommends strengthening the procurement mechanism of goods and services from upstream to downstream in accordance with relevant laws and regulations.

"One aspect that can be strengthened is the periodic probity audit mechanism by the supervising agency to minimize corruption loopholes," the KPK report stated.

"This strengthening scheme can be integrated into the existing vendor management system owned by the central and regional governments, with an increased role for the central government as the main supervisor," it continued.

The KPK conducted this survey in 36,888 educational institutions spread across 507 regencies/cities and 38 provinces in Indonesia. The total number of respondents reached 449,865, comprising students, parents/guardians, educators, principals, and higher education leaders.
