1. University of Oxford, United Kingdom (Total score: 95.7 points)

The University of Oxford ranks number one in the world. Oxford is the oldest English-speaking university in the world, founded in 1096. The University of Oxford received the highest score in the research indicator, at 99.6 points. The next highest scoring indicators were citations (98 points) and international outlook (96.3 points).

2. California Institute of Technology (Caltech), United States (Total score: 95 points)

The California Institute of Technology, or Caltech, rose from fourth to second place in the latest report. The indicators with the highest scores include citations (97.8 points) and research (96.9 points).

3. Harvard University, United States (Total score: 95 points)

In the previous report, Harvard University ranked third as the best university in the world. Harvard University received the highest scores in the citations indicator (99.2 points) and research (98.9 points).

4. Stanford University, United States (Total score: 94.9 points)

Stanford University achieved fourth place. This private university received the highest scores in the citations indicator (99.9 points) and research (96.8 points).

5. University of Cambridge, United Kingdom (Total score: 94.6 points)

The University of Cambridge is the second oldest English-speaking university in the world and the fourth oldest surviving university in the world. Its highest scoring indicator was research, at 99.5 points.

6. Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), United States (Total score: 94.6 points)

The Massachusetts Institute of Technology was founded in response to the advancements in technology and industry in the United States. MIT's highest scoring indicators were citations (99.7 points) and research (94.4 points).

7. Princeton University, United States (Total score: 93.6 points)

Princeton University is the fourth oldest institution of higher education in the United States. It has only 7,753 full-time students. Princeton University received the highest score in the citations indicator, at 99 points.

8. University of California, Berkeley, United States (Total score: 92.2 points)

The University of California, Berkeley is a public research university in the United States. The University of California, Berkeley received the highest score in the citations indicator, with a score of 99.1 points.
