Only two senior high schools from Papua made it into the top 1,000 best schools.

The Indonesian National Agency for Higher Education Entrance Tests (LTMPT) ranked the top 1,000 best schools based on the 2022 Computer-Based Written Examination (UTBK).

Only two Senior High Schools (SMA) from Papua were included in the LTMPT 2022 Top 1,000 Schools list. First, SMAS Averos Kota Sorong, West Papua, with a UTBK score of 528.83, ranked 570th nationally. Second, SMAN 1 Merauke Regency, Papua, with a total UTBK score of 513.92, ranked 971st nationally.

This indicates a disparity in educational opportunities for SMA students in Papua compared to those in Java, as shown below.

The following is the number of SMAs included in the LTMPT 2022 Top 1,000 Schools list by region:

* Java: 822 schools
* Sumatra: 108 schools
* Kalimantan: 31 schools
* Bali and Nusa Tenggara: 24 schools
* Sulawesi: 13 schools
* Maluku and Papua: 2 schools

LTMPT ranked 3,381 schools out of 23,657 schools that met the criteria. There were 745,115 participants in the LTMPT, with 515,165 meeting the criteria.

The LTMPT 2022 ranking methodology is as follows:

* Schools with more than 40 participants (2022 graduates) in the 2022 UTBK.
* 3,381 schools met this criterion.
* 515,165 participants met the 2022 UTBK assessment criteria.
* The 2022 UTBK score was calculated based on 60% TPS + 40% TKA.
* Schools were ranked based on their total score, from highest to lowest.
* The top 1,000 schools with the highest total scores were selected.
