Indonesia's Annual Inflation Rate Falls to 4.69% in August 2022

The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reported that Indonesia's annual inflation rate in August 2022 was 4.69% (year-on-year/yoy). This inflation rate is lower than the previous month, which recorded the highest level since 2015.

BPS data shows that inflation occurred due to price increases indicated by the rise in most expenditure group indices. The food, beverages, and tobacco group still experienced the highest annual inflation, at 7.73% (yoy).

This was followed by the transportation group at 6.62% (yoy), the personal care and other services group at 4.93% (yoy), and the household equipment, tools, and routine maintenance group at 4.89% (yoy).

Only the information, communication, and financial services group recorded a year-on-year deflation, at 0.29% (yoy).

Meanwhile, compared to the previous month, there was a deflation of 0.21% in August 2022 (month-to-month/m-to-m).

Several commodities that experienced price decreases in August 2022 include shallots, red chilies, cayenne peppers, cooking oil, broiler chicken, tomatoes, fresh fish, oranges, garlic, long beans, cucumbers, green beans, airfare, and gold jewelry.

Commodities that experienced price increases include: broiler eggs, rice, filtered kretek cigarettes, bottled water, household fuel, house contracts, electricity tariffs, house rent, gasoline, academy/university tuition fees, elementary school fees, junior high school fees, and senior high school fees.
