National Passenger Transportation Costs Increased by 17.84% (YoY) in July 2022

The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) recorded a 1.13% increase in the consumer price index (CPI) for the transportation expenditure group, reaching 109.97 in July 2022 from the previous month. This means that national transportation services experienced a 1.13% increase (inflation) last month compared to the previous month (month-to-month/m-to-m).

Similarly, compared to July 2021, transportation costs increased by 6.65% (year-on-year/yoy). This transportation expenditure inflation was the second highest after food inflation, which reached 9.35% (yoy).

The significant increase in transportation services last month was triggered by the increase in the prices of several non-subsidized fuels, with Pertamax Turbo rising by an average of 12%, Dexlite by an average of 16%, and Pertamina Dex by an average of 20%.

Passenger transportation sub-services experienced a 1.13% (m-to-m) or 17.84% (yoy) increase. This increase was the highest compared to the other three transportation expenditure sub-groups, as shown in the graph.

Next, private transportation sub-services experienced inflation of 0.16% (m-to-m) or 3.72% (yoy). This was followed by inflation in motor vehicle purchases of 0.56% (m-to-m) or 3.53% (yoy), and freight services increased by 0.23% (m-to-m) or 1.37% (yoy).
