What is the Direct Economic Impact of the Asian Games on Jakarta?

The 18th Asian Games will be held from August 18 to September 2, 2018, in Jakarta and Palembang. However, preparations, including the construction of infrastructure and facilities, have been underway since 2016.

According to a release from the Ministry of National Development Planning/Bappenas, the direct impact of the Asian Games on the Jakarta economy is estimated to reach Rp 22.1 trillion. This figure comprises Rp 13.7 trillion in construction investment, Rp 5.8 trillion in operational costs, and Rp 2.6 trillion in visitor spending (both domestic and international tourists).

The construction and improvement of roads, the renovation of the Gelora Bung Karno Stadium, and the athletes' village in Kemayoran have increased government investment and created jobs. Similarly, the holding of the Asian Games and the influx of spectators, both domestic and international, will have a positive economic impact on Jakarta.
