List of Provinces with the Highest Cooperative Surplus in 2020: East Java Tops the List

The Ministry of Cooperatives and SMEs (Kemenkopukm) reports that five Indonesian provinces have the highest Cooperative Surplus (SHU). East Java ranks first as the province with the largest cooperative SHU in the country, reaching Rp1.32 trillion in 2020.

DKI Jakarta follows with an SHU of Rp1.05 trillion, then West Java with Rp751.6 billion. Besides SHU, East Java also ranks first in business volume, equity, and the number of active cooperatives. Kemenkopukm states that the business volume of East Java cooperatives is Rp33.26 trillion. Equity reached Rp13.94 trillion, and the number of active cooperatives totaled 22,464.

Total national SHU in 2020 amounted to Rp7.22 trillion, a 15.24% increase compared to 2019's Rp6.27 trillion. Total national business volume reached Rp174 trillion, business assets Rp221.9 trillion, and the number of active cooperatives totaled 127,124.

The Minister of Cooperatives and SMEs, Teten Masduki, stated that public trust in cooperatives is continuously increasing. The contribution of cooperatives to the GDP is expected to increase to 5.5% in 2024, compared to the current 5.2%.

To improve the capacity of cooperatives, Kemenkopukm has prepared a revolving fund of Rp1.8 trillion. This revolving fund is intended for cooperatives operating in the real sector, such as apparel, crafts, and high-tech real sectors.
