Food Security Budget Reaches Rp108.8 Trillion in the 2024 State Budget

The Indonesian government has allocated Rp108.8 trillion (approximately US$7.1 billion based on current exchange rates) for food security in the 2024 State Budget (RAPBN).

This allocation represents a 7.8% increase compared to the Rp100.9 trillion (approximately US$6.6 billion) outlook for 2023.

"This budget prioritizes improving the availability, access, and price stabilization of food," said President Jokowi during a plenary session of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), as reported by Tempo.co on Wednesday, August 16, 2023.

The budget will be allocated primarily through central government spending (BPP) of Rp89.6 trillion (approximately US$5.8 billion) and transfers to regions (TKD) of Rp19.2 trillion (approximately US$1.2 billion).

According to the 2024 Financial Note, the food security budget policy for 2024 will focus on:

* Increasing domestic production through improvements in the distribution of infrastructure, land optimization, pest and disease control (OPT), mitigation of the impacts of climate change (DPI), strengthening research in cultivation and post-harvest processes, and strengthening the capacity of farmers and fishermen.
* Strengthening farmer institutions through farmer corporations.
* Accelerating the development and rehabilitation of food infrastructure, such as irrigation networks and dams.
* Developing food estate areas in Central Kalimantan, North Sumatra, and East Nusa Tenggara (NTT).
* Strengthening national food reserves.
