According to a Polling Institute survey, the electability of the Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI) has significantly strengthened, although it has not yet reached the parliamentary threshold.
This strengthening of the electability of the party with the red rose logo is due to the figure of President Joko Widodo's son, Kaesang Pangarep.
In the October 2023 survey, the Polling Institute initially found PSI's electability to be only 1.1%.
However, in the same survey, after respondents were informed that Kaesang was the Chairman of PSI and asked to choose again, PSI's electability increased about threefold to 3.5%.
"PSI's support appears to be stronger if voters are informed that Kaesang is currently the Chairman of PSI," said Polling Institute researcher Kennedy in an online press conference on YouTube, Thursday (12/10/2023).
"A portion of the party's voter base shifted to PSI upon learning that Kaesang is the Chairman of PSI, especially from the PDI-P, Gerindra, PPP, and non-partisan groups," he continued.
Law Number 7 of 2017 sets the parliamentary threshold at a minimum of 4%. This means that each political party must meet this vote requirement to obtain seats in the DPR (House of Representatives).
Until early October 2023, PDI-P remained the strongest party with a 23.1% electability rate, far above the threshold. However, the Polling Institute noted that 3% of PDI-P supporters switched to PSI.
Gerindra followed in second place with 14% electability, followed by Golkar at 7.1%, and Democrat at 6.7%.
Then the middle tier is filled by PKB (5.7%), PAN (5.4%), Nasdem (4.4%), and PKS (4%).
Other parties such as PSI, Perindo, PPP, Partai Ummat, and Partai Buruh have electability below the parliamentary threshold, as shown in the graph.
This Polling Institute survey involved 1,206 respondents aged 17 years and older or already married. The sample was taken using a random digit dialing (RDD) technique.
Data collection was conducted from October 1-3, 2023, using telephone interview methods. This survey has a margin of error of 2.9% and a 95% confidence level.
