The Russian government launched a military invasion of eastern Ukraine on Thursday, February 24th.
By Friday morning, February 25th, this invasion had reportedly resulted in 169 injuries and 57 deaths.
According to data from the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS), Russia's military strength far surpasses that of Ukraine. In 2020, the number of Russian troops was recorded at 900,000 personnel, while Ukraine had only 209,000.
Data from the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) also shows that Russia's weapons production capacity is very strong, ranking 15th globally, while Ukraine ranks 77th.
The following countries are recorded as having supplied weapons to Ukraine:
1. United States (US)
According to SIPRI data, during the 2018-2019 period, the US delivered 210 units of weapons to Ukraine, consisting of anti-tank guided missiles, patrol boats, and artillery radar systems.
2. Poland
Poland is recorded as having sent 100 units of weapons to Ukraine during the 2018-2019 period. These weapons included combat drones and several types of tanks.
3. United Kingdom
SIPRI records show that the UK sent 75 units of military transport vehicles during the 2014-2015 period.
4. Czech Republic
In 2018, the Czech Republic is recorded as having sent 50 units of defense systems, consisting of several types of tanks and self-propelled artillery.
5. Canada
In 2015, Canada is recorded as having sent 39 units of military transport vehicles to Ukraine.
6. France
France is recorded as having sent 20 units of combat vehicles to Ukraine in 2018, consisting of several patrol boats and combat helicopters.
7. United Arab Emirates (UAE)
The UAE is recorded as having sent 10 units of combat vehicles to Ukraine in 2015.
8. Spain
Spain is recorded as having sent 7 units of mortar launching vehicles to Ukraine in 2017.
9. Denmark
Denmark is recorded as having sent 3 units of patrol boats to Ukraine in 2017.
In addition to the countries mentioned above, SIPRI data also shows that Ukraine has placed orders for warships and fighter jets from Turkey.
However, until the end of 2020, the number of units ordered and delivered was not recorded in the SIPRI database.
