Liquified petroleum gas (LPG) is the main fuel used by Indonesian households for cooking.

According to data from the Ministry of ESDM, throughout 2022 Indonesia imported approximately 6.7 million tons of LPG. This means that 82% of the LPG consumed by the population is supported by supplies from other countries.

Starting next year, the government will tighten the distribution of subsidized LPG or 3-kilogram (kg) LPG cylinders. This is stipulated in the Decision of the Director General of Oil and Gas of the Ministry of ESDM Number 99.K/MG.05/DJM/2023.

The decision states, among other things, "Starting January 1, 2024, the regulation will be implemented that only certain LPG users who have been registered in a web-based system and/or application can purchase Certain LPG."

In the future, subsidized LPG or 3 kg LPG cylinders can only be purchased by people who are already registered in the government's database.
